Ian Davenport | Colour Splat Fizz Bang Wallop is a silkscreen print by acclaimed contemporary artist and YBA, Ian Davenport, best known for his poured lines and puddle paintings.

Colour Splat Fizz Bang Wallop hails from a series in which the artist experimented with the colours and textures of household emulsion paints, applying them to the canvas in a range of physical approaches. In this instance, Davenport splatted the paint onto the surface and allowed them to drip into a network of rainbow squiggles.

This 28-colour silkscreen print is from a limited edition of 30, signed and numbered by the artist. It comes framed in a 25mm white box frame.

Ian Davenport

A member of the YBAs (Young British Artists) Ian Davenport was instrumental in changing the face of contemporary art in the 1990s. Known for its openness to materials and an attention to process, Davenport’s bold and abstract aesthetic helped define a generation. Today, he continues to produce convention-defying artworks in response to contemporary culture.

Davenport’s recent work adopts a dynamic painting technique, applying lashings of household paint by pouring, dripping and splattering pigment onto the canvas. In their dramatic bursts of glossy colour, these works capture a sense of movement and immediacy, for an aesthetic that demands attention.

Davenport graduated from Goldsmiths College in London in 1988, the same year he featured in the “Freeze” exhibition curated by fellow Young British Artist Damien Hirst. In the years since, Davenport has exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, the Galleria Nazionale Arte Moderna in Rome, the Hammer Museum, and Kunsthal Rotterdam, among other institutions. On the secondary market, the price point for Davenport’s work has reached six figures.
