The format, a busy working day, attentive personal tuition, enjoyable company and good food. The masterclass workshops will run for two/four days, 10am to 4pm, lunch and refreshments are included. Summerleaze Gallery is situated in an exceptionally peaceful and beautiful corner of Wiltshire, yet within easy reach of London by road and rail. The workshops space is converted from farm buildings, having a wonderful sense of space and light. There will be some teatime entertainment in the form of a film or talk on two of the days.

Working from models each day, the Masterclass explores a range of processes and techniques including the use of colour to introduce subtleties and presence, as well as advice on capturing a likeness and overcoming difficulties. There will be with a number of shorter sketching studies from the life model, investigating form through a variety of approaches and drawing materials including willow charcoal, graphite, pastels and pencil. The two and four day courses will introduce longer poses, giving you time to develop more sustained and individual works.
Figurative painting is inherently difficult and requires a unique understanding of and sensitivity to the model. As an acclaimed figurative painter, Anthony Connolly provides insights into the artistic visual language of painting from life.
