Marit Geraldine Bostad Abstract Expressionist. Beauty of half remembered dreams.
If the heart was given hands to paint, then the result could be something by Abstract Expressionist, Marit Geraldine Bostad. Her work has the beauty of half remembered dreams, the plaintive mesmerism of whale song and a gorgeous, puzzling and enigmatic Joycean stream of consciousness. Main Image IN THE SPOTLIGHT (detail)
A soul in wonder at herself.
Answerless, yet satisfying. But that’s what it’s like, not what it is, because really, it’s something from the deep recesses and dark unknowable places within Marit Geraldine herself. Read Marit Geraldine’s thoughts on ‘true beauty’ CONVERSATIONS
Quiet please.
Marit Geraldine earned a degree in Art Direction in Oslo in 2001. She works and lives in Horton Vestfold County, Norway. The impetus of her paintings is emotionally-charged: she describes her practice as a kind of therapy and a way to switch off from the flurry of conscious activity in her mind, the everyday clatter.
The source of her abstract expressionist is a maelstrom of memories and people, whose essence she intuitively attempts to preserve on the canvas. Richly coloured and textured.
As an Abstract Expressionist Marit Geraldine incorporates layer upon layer of acrylic paint, her canvases are imbued with a fresh, youthful approach: one of positivity, reinforced by an invigorating colour palette. She was originally an Art Director, with ten years experience working on visual projects in film, illustration and concept building in Oslo. Alongside her commercial work, she has always practised painting, as a way to release and unwind.

The future looks colourful, hectic, puzzling, mysterious, alluring. Remind you of anything?
The outstanding merit of Marit Geraldine.
“When I paint I enter into another realm, not by trying, but just by being, through the direct interaction with my primary tools, my colours and my blank canvas. When I am in that subconscious state I form a deep connection to the artwork. It is then, I find, that others will connect to it as well. My job is to search for this place and to really know when I am there. This demands that I be true to myself, be open minded and search for stimulating connections and contrasts.
I store episodes, personalities and thought-provoking interactions in my mind, which I later use to inform the emotional experience of my painting process. I love the fight to achieve my raw self-expression on the canvas, the process of removing the unnecessary, and evaluating every detail of my inner being. Building up and breaking down the diverse elements of my personal experiences, and bringing them together in a new dimension.
Perfection in art as in life is boring, and my love of connections and contrasts will always push me further into unknown territory as I search for my inner self-expression. I have always found abstract painting fascinating, as it provides so many unique ways of seeing, so many stories and so many perspectives. The artist is almost forgotten, and that to me is a true meeting. The painting is suddenly connected to a bigger unity, an organic world in a constant change”.
