Quiet please.
Marit Geraldine earned a degree in Art Direction in Oslo in 2001. She works and lives in Horton Vestfold County, Norway. The impetus of her paintings is emotionally-charged: she describes her practice as a kind of therapy and a way to switch off from the flurry of conscious activity in her mind, the everyday clatter.
The source of her abstract expressionist is a maelstrom of memories and people, whose essence she intuitively attempts to preserve on the canvas. Richly coloured and textured.
As an Abstract Expressionist Marit Geraldine incorporates layer upon layer of acrylic paint, her canvases are imbued with a fresh, youthful approach: one of positivity, reinforced by an invigorating colour palette. She was originally an Art Director, with ten years experience working on visual projects in film, illustration and concept building in Oslo. Alongside her commercial work, she has always practised painting, as a way to release and unwind.

In 2010, Marit Geraldine left her career in Art Direction to pursue her painting full time and to trust her instincts. Too many fences in the commercial world. In 2015 she opened her own gallery/studio called Geraldine. She has exhibited her work since 2012 in Oslo, London and New York and has received substantial acclaim from the curators at Saatchi Art, as well as galleries throughout Europe, for her vibrant, strong and contemporary abstract paintings. In April 2017 Rebecca Wilson, Chief Curator and VP, Art Advisory at Saatchi Art picked Marit Geraldine Bostad as one of the “4 Must See Artists” at The Other Art Fair London, which presented 130 emerging artists from all over the world. In May 2017 she gained representation at the Daniel Raphael Gallery in London. Marit also achieved her first solo show in New York with Spotteart. After being spotted at The Other Art Fair in London in Oct 2017, she gained representation at the London gallery Flat Space Art. Emerging artist Marit Geraldine was also selected to show alongside Gary Komarin in Madelyn Jordon Fine Art Gallery in New York September 2017. The exhibition called “Body Electric”. was curated by Madelyn Jordon and she emphasised the artists’ ability to evoke emotional responses through colour and contrasts. VIEW ‘THE KISS’ HERE.

“When I paint I enter into another realm, not by trying, but just by being, through the direct interaction with my primary tools, my colours and my blank canvas. When I am in that subconscious state I form a deep connection to the artwork. It is then, I find, that others will connect to it as well. My job is to search for this place and to really know when I am there. This demands that I be true to myself, be open minded and search for stimulating connections and contrasts.
I store episodes, personalities and thought-provoking interactions in my mind, which I later use to inform the emotional experience of my painting process. I love the fight to achieve my raw self-expression on the canvas, the process of removing the unnecessary, and evaluating every detail of my inner being. Building up and breaking down the diverse elements of my personal experiences, and bringing them together in a new dimension.
Perfection in art as in life is boring, and my love of connections and contrasts will always push me further into unknown territory as I search for my inner self-expression. I have always found abstract painting fascinating, as it provides so many unique ways of seeing, so many stories and so many perspectives. The artist is almost forgotten, and that to me is a true meeting. The painting is suddenly connected to a bigger unity, an organic world in a constant change”.
