In true dolce vita style, one doesn’t iron linen, one simply lives in it.

We are delighted to present The Linen Edit, a collection of washed Italian linen, produced near the Renaissance town of Carpi, south of Verona and north of Florence.

Rich textures reflect the soft plaster palette and shades of fresco colours.

Delving further into the origins of the oldest textile in the world, the first traces of linen hark back to Ancient Egypt during the fifth millennium BC. It spread throughout the Grecian and Roman empires whose aristocracy used the fabric not only for their fine attire, but also for the glorious sails of their boats.

Pure and simple.

Where does linen come from and how is it made? The highest quality linen comes from the strongest natural fibre in the world – flax – sown during the balmy days of Primavera (spring). A natural transformation extracts the fibre from the plant. Linen is a rich and flexible fabric, wonderfully pleasant in all seasons as it regulates body temperature.

Insulating in the winter and luxuriously cool during languid, summer days, fanned by the venticello – the small summer breeze.

Moreover, studies reveal that even sleeping in linen sheets encourages a more productive, energising sleep. Hypoallergenic and antibacterial, gentle and soft, linen is perfect for the skin -and the Italians know a thing or two about beautification. Unsurprisingly, the word ‘lingerie’ comes from linen.

Our experts have noted that the more you wash linen, the softer and shinier it becomes – its brightness due to the nodes of fibre that reflect light. Just remember, in true dolce vita style, one doesn’t iron linen, one simply lives in it.
