The use of ‘Kin’ throughout some of her artworks indicates people who are close to her. ‘MatKin’ was dedicated to her boyfriend at the time Mat Collishaw. The fragile intimacy of the pencil sketching lays bare her vulnerability in that moment. ‘MatKin’ is a love note as an art piece, hastily scribbled in a moment of inspiration.

Tracey Emin was born in London in 1963, her work takes on many different forms including, photography, neon, needlework, printmaking, video, painting and installations. She came to prominence as one of YBAs (Young British Artists). Her work is incredibly personal and raw. Notable pieces include Everyone I Have Slept With 1963-1995 and My Bed’ This work put Emin on the shortlist for the Turner Prize in 1999.

She is a prominent Royal Academician with her first exhibition at the Academy in1997 with the landmark exhibition Sensation. .

In 2013, Queen Elizabeth II appointed Emin Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for her contributions to visual arts. The artist continues to create works that both challenge and comfort the viewer
