IA London SS21. The Girl Who Collected Memories

Nowadays, fashion worth getting out of bed for must challenge overplayed conventions and put storytelling at its heart. It is perhaps more ‘visual poetry’ than anything.

Nowhere is this more true than with classically trained fine artist and textile designer Ira Iceberg. Award-winning ‘One to Watch’ Ira’s digitally expressive artworks, painted directly on a garment’s pattern, reflect a startling creative vision. Both space and silhouette are explored to transform sculpture of the female form in unpredictable ways.

Founded in 2017, IA London is a home-grown, English-based avant-garde label that designs sustainable and ethically-made womenswear with a strong artistic identity. A firm Vogue-favourite, the beautiful and bizarre garments play with imagination, challenging the boundaries of form and function. Splashes of Alexander McQueen blend with opulent Caravaggio connotations – the 2021 fashion landscape, both online and offline – is poised for the fantastical creations, underpinned by a core classical narrative.

As we move into London Fashion Week 2021, the Spring Summer collection can be found on Vogue Italia. Similarly, American Vogue writers lauded Japanese-British singer Rina Sawayama’s style during a recent Jimmy Fallon appearance, as she opted for romantic, retro floral-print leggings.

Not only challenging fashions’ front lines, Ira’s creations reveal she embodies the sustainable fashion worlds’ attempts to embrace digital and technological innovation.
