André Butzer | Set of 4 Screen Prints. This exclusive set of screen prints is dedicated to André Butzer’s iconic character of the Woman, who is the guiding star at the centre of his work embodying the most confident sense of being and experienced living. The lavishly realised prints come forth in simplicity and fullness alike—every stroke and every patch of colour gleams as if painted by hand.
“You shouldn’t make it crooked on purpose, but you shouldn’t make it straight on purpose, either. If you one hundred percent do not pay attention to technique or do not respect the material you’re handling, then as a result it can happen that you develop a high sensibility, for the material that is, because you are using it without intention. I have probably developed a great deal of sensibility for the materials by means of a complete lack of respect or knowledge. And because of that, the lack of respect possibly turns into high respect… in the results, that is.”
Fusing European Expressionism with American pop culture, while taking in wide-ranging influences from the likes of Friedrich Hölderlin, Walt Disney, and Henry Ford, André Butzer has created a fascinating pictorial universe since the late 1990s. This exclusive set of screen prints focuses on his iconic character of the Woman, which is the guiding star at the centre of his work.
André Butzer | Set of 4 Screen Prints. The four screen prints in this exclusive limited-edition set of 100 copies were handmade from start to finish: each of the six colours was carefully mixed from real pigments and the screen prints were then hand-printed on handmade Somerset cotton paper. The paper, the printing process, as well as the inks are all CO2 neutral and organic.
Graceful and radiant, the figure of the Woman is André Butzer’s guiding star. Only she is able to reconcile an inhospitable world with the utopian place in space that is his NASAHEIM. She embodies the most confident sense of being and experienced living. Life finding consistency in artistic form. In suddenness and solidity Butzer’s lavishly realised screen prints come forth in simplicity and fullness alike. Every stroke and every patch of colours gleams as if painted by hand. Thus, fully immersed in colour, the clear-sighted women stride along or delicately sway like golden-toned blossoms—constantly renewing the full scope of the stirrings of the heart.
