Founded by Ruby Jack and launched in January of 2020, Shape of Sound is inspired by a lifelong obsession with the sound of things, and an urge to sample timbre and tone in a wearable, inaudible form. The shape of sound is a slow song: a golden foxtrot; a silver waltz. She is a forgotten melody and a trapped base-line, slowly now tracing a physical outline, meeting her shadows. She is the metamorphosis of song to a form.

Shape of Sound Collection

Chic, modernist earring design, indulgent uses of precious and ancient metal on satisfyingly weighty pendants and an elegant take on statement rings and undulating, sculptural bangles — all of these things make for a collection that’s achingly desirable and utterly timeless.

The Restless Ring

Despite having only just launched, Shape of Sound has already been requested by Edward Enninful (Editor, British Vogue), Donna Wallace (British Vogue), and Julia Sarr Jamois (British Vogue & iD) and worn by Daisy Lowe & Chloe Wise

The Ring of Two Voices

Shape of Sound is designed by Ruby, a designer and a singer, with firm roots in music and the visual arts. A career as a musician has deepened an appreciation for how sounds can conjure shapes and forms.

The Cave & Echo Ear Cuff →

Her path to jewellery came when her head was turned to coax a song, but a shape whistled in her ear. She wanted to better understand her compositions, but the process took her somewhere unexpected. Her songs were destined for metal, resolved to adorn bodies and to echo their stories.

The Painter’s Ring

Whilst studying Contemporary Popular Music at Goldsmiths, and performing in indie band MARINE, Ruby began to experiment with printing her graphic scores (a form of musical map) on to jewellery.

The first designs were sold as band merchandise and gifted to friends. When she began to receive requests via Instagram and her private orders grew, Ruby took the leap in to launching her namesake brand in the summer of 2018. Her eponymous Ruby Jack brand has been featured in magazines such as ELLE UK, VOGUE, WONDERLAND, GIRLSTALK & LUCY’s. Her pieces have been sold via The Royal Academy of Arts, Wolf & Badger and worn by celebrities such as Aisling Bea and Mahalia.

The Whisper Earrings

Shape of Sound was born as the answer to Ruby’s desire to create in two parallel artistic universes, contrasting in aesthetic, but still reaching out and across to each other through the echoing of brand signatures and a coherent sense of style.

Working alongside a UK-based team of master craftspeople in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, London’s Hatton Garden and Stoke-on-Trent’s Potteries, Ruby & her long term partner, Chris, run both brands from their studio/workshop in Greenwich, S.E. London.
